Effective September 9, 2020 Governor Newsom signed legislation to codify his prior Executive Order that expanded employee entitlements to Emergency Paid Sick Leave (EPSL) to include food sector workers who otherwise might not have been covered under FFCRA.

The codification of the order states, as the previous order, that employers must provide EPSL through December 31, 2020 (aligns with FFCRA) or if there is an extension of FFRCA by the federal government, that EPSL be extended as well. Additionally, employees working in the food sector industry or facilities are permitted to wash their hands every 30 minutes and additionally as needed.
